Welcome to the 2008 Stylies Awards, the Fashion Awards for a new millennium, our primal scream at the glamour scene, celebrating the Best and Brightest in the Stylish Universe for the past year.

In 2008, we experienced a vast crescendo, waves upon waves — there he goes, there goes Speed Racer — of trends, styles, ideas, models, designs and designers inundating us at a fast and furious pace. It was difficult to keep up, but we Aced the test, because fashion is our passion. Woooo.

I visit Fatima at her parents flat in Tashkent. Like many Uzbekistan apartments, the rooms are cozy, the conversation flows, and the sweets and libations are eagerly handed out to visitors. Before me stands 19-year-old Fatima Ausheva, leggy, graceful and beautiful in a fawnlike way, she is one of the top models in Uzbekistan… She dreams to grace the cover of i-D Magazine, and she wants to return to modeling after she recovers from cancer.

There’s nothing startling about white blouses, but there’s always something romantic about them. There are a variety of classic styles available from flowy tie bowed to transparent to white crisp shirts. An innovative bonus is that the Fall/Winter ’09 season offers a futuristic spin off to a traditional wardrobe staple with origami pleated blouses.

Structured jackets and coats are not easy ones to put on, but they give your silhouette an edgy shape and sculptured look. Architectural shoulders and asymmetrical dresses are du jour (think of Balenciaga, Jil Sander and Calvin Klein).

Paris Fashion Week was all about romance and sensuality. Designers played with proportions and introduced dresses that were swankly asymmetrical and stylishly playful. Short in the front, long in the back, and graceful all the way through.

We love YSL for Stefano Pilati’s aesthetics, which he brought to the house, their shoes, and the third thing we love about the brand are their BAGS.

The newest starlet to hit the fashion magazines and Fashion Week front rows is Harry Potter star Emma Watson. The 18-year-old actress was spotted attending London Fashion Week, and having her moment in Paris at the Chanel, Giambattista Valli, and Sonia Rykiel front rows.

Baggy jeans are a hot trend, but fall’s avangarde slouchy pants with their tailored take, endow a silhouette with a more sophisticated and grown up look. At YSL, LV, Marc Jacobs and Nina Ricci, the models were walking with fabric, bagged, bunched, and looped low down between their legs.

Long and lean skirts paired with knitted cardigans and jackets are not just the favorite uniform of modest girls, it’s the fall’s new trendy look, delivered to the catwalk by designers such as Alexander Wang, Carlos Miele, Halston, and Marc Jacobs.

It was obvious at the Fall/Winter fashion shows that peplum was trendy once more, as well as a ladylike attitude towards fall styles.
