Hey Joe, What Did Katie Wear?
By Editor • Nov 9th, 2009 • Category: Fashion View
What Katie Wore: It’s a love story, it’s a blog, it’s a big success, having been named one of the 20 best fashion blogs by The Telegraph. And the concept is easy on the eyes and mind. Ad executive Katie wear the clothes, a different ensemble for each day of the year. Joe, her boyfriend and fellow ad executive, snaps the pictures and eloquently describes what Katie is wearing. And we’re quite pleased here at The Fashion Time Magazine to be able to interview the stylish duo.
Fashion Time: Joe, tell us about your backgrounds and how What Katie Wore came about?
Joe: We both work in advertising in London. Katie complained one day that I never wrote her any love letters. And so I thought the blog might be a nice way to show her how much I love Katie (and what she wears too).
Fashion Time: Katie, what’s the Number One fashion advice you can give to anyone?
Katie: Don’t take things too seriously – I think fashion should be something you enjoy and play with, so next time you go shopping pick up something you wouldn’t normally wear and try it on. Trust me – you’ll discover there’s so much more that suits you than you’d think (especially when it comes to colour, pattern and shape). And I guess on a similar level, don’t be afraid to make a mistake.
Fashion Time: Joe and Katie, what were your reactions to being named one of the 20 Best Fashion Blogs by The Telegraph?
Katie: I couldn’t believe it – the coverage just seems to keep coming, and it never fails to surprise me that our wee blog has garnered quite so much attention!
Joe: Funny!
Fashion Time: Katie, the most underrated designer is… and why?
Katie: Hmm I’ve only got one piece of theirs, but there’s a Scottish cashmere designer duo called Queene & Belle – I love what they do with the softest Scottish cashmere, giving it a quirk and playfulness that makes their designs a joy to wear. I guess they’re a bit like a Scottish Sonia Rykiel, who I also love.
Fashion Time: Joe, what are you wearing today?
Joe: A Hackett overcoat, American Apparel t-shirt and True Religion jeans tucked into my boots. I’m not so sure about it as a look.
Fashion Time: Katie, after you finish wearing a different outfit every day for the whole year, what will you do with all the clothing? And, LOL, how big are your closets?
Katie: I’m a self-confessed hoarder so I think when the year’s up I’ll be keeping most of it to enjoy in the future.

You’d be surprised just how much you can fit into a double wardrobe – my closet is filled with storage boxes and make-shift shelves so I can utilise every inch of space. And I don’t think I could do without my underbed storage boxes!
Fashion Time: Joe, if you were ever marooned on a desert island, what three things would you like to have along with you?
Joe: Apart from Katie? A book on how to ferment coconuts, a book on how to make a laptop out of coconuts and the internet?
Fashion Time: Katie, what rule of fashion do you always break?
Katie: Pale skin can’t work with bright colour – I’ve never stuck to that one!
Fashion Time: Joe, your resistance is futile to?
Joe: Beaujolais
Fashion Time: Katie, everyone has a secret, so tell us yours?
Katie: Every inch of my wardrobe is ordered by colour, right down to my hosiery drawer.
Fashion Time:Joe, with the vast multitude of fashion blogs awaiting us, what is it about What Katie Wore that requires our immediate and wholehearted attention?
Joe: WKW isn’t about fashion. We don’t really care about what designers are cool or what trends are on the catwalk. We’re interested in what time we can leave work and where we’re going for dinner! Our blog is just about a pretty girl and the bright colours she wears – it will definitely cheer you up!
Fashion Time: Katie, let’s say Joe was away for the day. If you could substitute one of the great fashion photographers in place of him, who would you choose… and why?
Katie: I’m sure every other style blog lover would agree with me, I’d love to be snapped by The Sartorialist!
Fashion Time: Katie, what is the coolest fashion magazine ever… and why?
Katie: Hmm, I’m really enjoying Elle at the moment. Although I still think that no-one has quite equaled the sense of style and identity of The Face.
Fashion Time: Joe, what in fashion makes you sick?
Joe: The cost of nice boots for men maybe?
Fashion Time: Katie, what are your favorite fashion blogs and sites for fashion?
Katie: Well, Advanced Style always makes me smile – that’s how I want to be when I grow up! And for the ultimate styled look from background through to every wee detail What is James Wearing.
Fashion Time: Katie, what fashion tips would you give for women looking for their own unique style?
Katie: See your wardrobe like a child sees a dressing up box – full of possibility. And most definitely don’t be afraid of colour!
