Spring/Summer 2009 trends: Geometry Class
It was once the exclusive territory of Rei Kawakubo, but now it has reached the mainstream of fashion. Call it geometry or call it architecture, but there was one obvious thing apparent at the Spring/Summer 2009 catwalks: designers over-extending themselves, playing with proportions. Sleeves on clothing were made of ball shapes at Dolce & Gabbana and Proenza Shouler, bottoms were constructed of trapezes at Giambattista Valli and Kai Kühne, and structured drapings arrived with the Balenciaga and Oscar de la Renta shows.
