THE 2009 OSCAR JEWELRY TRENDS & PREDICTIONS

5 February 2009 One Comment

Hollywood’s stylish starlets will descend upon the Kodak Theater for the 81st annual Academy Awards on February 22, 2009. The red carpet will be emblazoned with media and photographers taking photos of actors and actresses, as fashion columnists frantically write down “who is wearing what.” The goal of the stars? To make every media outlet’s Best Dressed List. That being said, what can we expect to see on the red carpet?

We’ve gathered jewelry expert, Dana Levy of Dana Rebecca Designs to spill on what we can expect to see in terms of jewelry trends. Dana herself has accessorized several starlets for red carpet appearances including Jamie Lynn-Sigler, Lo Bosworth (The Hills), Lauren Conrad, Joanna Garcia (Privileged), and more. She knows what the hot styles are and the top trends for jewelry, and can provide some insight into what we might see.

TREND #1: BRIGHT WHITE

“Celebrities won’t just be flashing their pearly whites at the camera at the Oscars – you can also expect white dresses and accessories as well. White was one of the most popular hues of choice at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards (Kate Beckinsale, Salma Hayek, Sandra Bullock, Teri Hatcher, etc). We can expect to see some additional white jewelry on the red carpet.”

TREND #2: ISLAND INSPIRATION

“At the Oscars, you’ll see a lot of island-inspired colors like turquoise, coral, and yellow. Hollywood’s stylish stars have been wearing these colors to many red carpet shows (think Eva Mendes’ stunning turquoise necklace, Eva Longoria’s jeweled dress, etc). Island colors like turquoise and yellow really enhance your tan and give you an added “glow.”

TREND #3: DIAMONDS ARE A CELEBRITY’S BEST FRIEND

“Diamonds are a fail-proof solution to any jewelry and accessory concerns. Celebrities are often worried that jewelry can lead to a “Worst Dressed” nomination, and therefore, opt for diamonds. You’ll definitely see them on the red carpet in all forms – dangling earrings, big bold rings, and button earrings. But, unlike previous years, stars will keep the diamonds simple. They don’t want anything too flashy due to the state of the economy right now.”

TREND #4: SMALL STUDS & BUTTON EARRINGS

“Celebrities want their couture dresses to do all the talking, so we can certainly expect to see a lot of button earrings. Button earrings always enhance the overall look, but don’t take away from the dress. They also make a fabulous accent to the ever-so-popular one-shoulder dress.”

TREND #5: CLIP-ON COMEBACK

“Many celebrity stars have a big secret – they love clip-on earrings! Stars often ask jewelry designers to create clip-on earring styles for them, even if they have pierced ears. You see, those big, diamond earrings can be very heavy, which can stretch out the ear. For comfort and beauty, many celebrities opt for clip-on styles to avoid any problems. This will be a trend that will continue into 2010.”

Olivia Wilde and Eva Longoria both wore clip-on earrings to the Golden Globes…

I know, diamonds are a girls best friend, but don’t forget the pearls ladies. They can make a very bold statement if you dare.
