Show us what you got Hollywood… In the year the Oscars extolled the virtues of Slumdog Millionaire, there was nothing “slummy” about the charmingly-coffered stars who preened for the cameras in their fabulous designer-wear, accessorized-to-the-millions best at the 81st annual Academy Awards.

This year’s Best actress Kate Winslet walked the Oscars red carpet in a Yves Saint Laurent Atelier one-shouldered gown and completed her look with Chopard jewelry. Does America, the land of recession, still have a passion for fashion? Kate seemed to think so.

Penelope Cruz who took her anticipated Oscar, arrived on the red carpet wearing a vintage Pierre Balmain Haute Couture gown. She polished her look with Chopard jewels. Oooo la la la, it was one of the show-stopping numbers of the hot and exotic.

The newly christened star Freida Pinto wowed the crowd at Oscars wearing a blue one-shouldered John Galliano Spring 2009 gown. She accessorized with a Judith Leiber clutch.

Sarah Jessica Parker tried to outshine the other actresses with her Christian Dior Haute Couture gown, she completed her look with Fred Leighton jewels and Salvatore Ferragamo clutch. Good effort!

Angelina Jolie stayed safe as usual wearing a black Elie Saab gown and added some color with green Lorraine Schwartz earrings.

Jennifer Aniston attended the Oscars in a shiny Valentino gown, which we liked a great deal. Far more daring than rival Angelina’s ensemble.

Anne Hathaway didn’t win her Oscar but she definitely stood out on the red carpet. The actress wore an ivory Armani Privé Spring 2009 gown and Cartier jewelry.

Last year’s Best actress Marion Cotillard picked up a Christian Dior Fall 2008 Couture gown.

Natalie Portman walked the red carpet in a chiffon Rodarte gown.

Tilda Swinton is a huge Lanvin fan, so it was not a big surprise she wore Lanvin’s Pre-Fall 2009 silk blouse and long black skirt.

Taraji P. Henson opted for a Roberto Cavalli gown and a Fred Leighton necklace.

Meryl Streep was gorgeous as usual, this time in a voluminous Alberta Ferretti gown, that appeared to warp space and time.

Amy Adams arrived to the red carpet in a red strapless Carolina Herrera gown and Fred Leighton necklace. The recessionary chic feel of the gown left us cold.

Best actress nominee Marisa Tomei stepped out into the razor’s edge of fashion with a one-shouldered Versace Atelier gown. She accessorized with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels. Very daring.

Evan Rachel Wood brought her Elie Saab Spring 2009 Couture gown to the red carpet. She gave it a finishing touch of Neil Lane jewels. Simple but chicly elegant.

Queen Latifah chose a navy Georges Chakra Spring 2009 couture gown and looked like she was having tons of fun.

Jessica Biel appeared on the red carpet in a white Prada silk gown. Jessica looked marvelous as only Jerssica can.

Beyonce Knowles dazzled in the dress of her own brand – House of Dereon Couture. No cliche-riddled affair, it was brilliant opiate for the masses

We have no idea what Miley Cyrus was doing at the Oscars, but it seems the girl tried to step over the carpet in a full parade. The Hanna Montana star opted for a Zuhair Murad Spring 2009 Couture gown.

The lovely Alicia Keys wore a lilac Armani Prive gown, which chaperoned her lithe style rather elegantly.

Heidi Klum was The Lady in Red again. The model was seen in a red Roland Mouret gown last night.
