TOP 5 NEW YORK SS09 FASHION SHOWS
By Editor • Oct 6th, 2008 • Category: Fashion ViewNew York fashion week was optimistic and light despite the current economic crisis in the world. Overall the shows were a good insight into what trends were to follow in Milan, London and Paris.
Alexander Wang

This show is always one to watch, and is especially important to those downtown girls with a Park Avenue checkbook. This season Wang surprised us all with a shot of color, while still holding on to the grunge-esque look we come to know and love him for. The clothes seem more feminine this season while still having a rock and roll edge.
3.1 Phillip Lim

This collection actually took a lot of heat in the press, however, seeing it in person I thought it was lovely. This season Lim melded Spanish influences complimented with bursts of fringe. The Pièce de résistance? The pink mid calf zipper dress of course worn with Lim’s own design for Louboutin. Not for sale…trust me..i’ve asked!
Zero Maria Cornejo

This year marked the 10th anniversary for Maria Cornejo and it appears Cornejo still gets it right. The collection was dark for spring but was a continuation of Fall’s rock-goth trend. Zero showcased beautiful leather, geometric patterns and a dark version of cropped jodhpurs that were a change to the military influenced jodhpurs of late.
Jil Sander

Raf Simmons can rarely do wrong in the eyes of the fashion elite, and this season was no exception. The designer brings an edge and newness to the famously minimalist brand. Shredded dresses and thigh high slits are the look du jour!
Marc Jacobs

Always a fashion darling, Marc executed this season effortlessly as usual. The models looked like Mary Poppins gone grunge! Jacobs’ early grunge era at Perry Ellis was quite evident here, and a perfect continuation for the fall.
- ALEXANDRA IANCOVICI

Alexandra is a London based Buyer/Consultant working with various luxury concept stores all over the world. She worked in the buying offices of Holt Renfrew Canada and Bergdorf Goodman early on in her career. Alexandra covers fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan, Paris and India.

Wang’s designs are easily my favorite. He has somehow managed to use a grunge-esque style in a very sexy way, which is no small feat. He has combined the best elements of grunge with the best elements of modern design. This is exactly the kind of stuff we love to see at FutureClaw magazine, and if you like it to, check us out at http://www.futureclaw.com!
