TOP 5 LONDON SS09 FASHION SHOWS
By Editor • Oct 14th, 2008 • Category: Fashion ViewThe London shows are always the ones to watch for trends. The city is universally known for being years ahead of others, fashion and trend wise. This season the London shows brought a sensible whimsy to troubled times.
Giles

Giles Deacon is usually known for being forward, avant garde and whimsical all at once. While this season was no exception, there was also a mature sensibility to Giles’ work. Call it the recession effect, but what we are left with are beautiful and wearable clothes. Giles still kept the element of surprise we have come to know and love him for by sending down pacman-esque models chasing each other down the runway. I had the pleasure of seeing the clothes and accessories in the showroom and those pac-man helmets were heavy! The shoes by Louboutin were to die for…multi-strap platform stilettos which any woman would look divine wobbling around on!
Todd Lynn

Todd Lynn is a favourite among such rock stars as U2 and Courtney Love. Lynn never strays from rock and roll influences with a dash of goth, and glam goth being a prominent trend for AW08 and even a few of the SS09 shows, worked in Lynn’s favour. What we got for spring was more of Todd Lynn’s fabulous tailoring with edge. A love for rock and roll emulates in his clothes and the show always has an amazing soundtrack with Lynn sourcing new music not even released yet from his A-list clientele!
Christopher Kane

Kane’s SS09 collection was inspired by “pre-historic” imagery from such pop culture classics as Planet of the Apes and the Flinstones. This is evident in the bright leopard print cashmere and the geometric circle cut-outs that are reminiscent of reptile type scales. A bit of fur trim finishes off the idea of the modern cavewoman!
Eley Kishimoto

This collection is always quirky and playful which is exactly what the Eley Kishimoto customer demands. Bright colours and florals form the perfect symbiosis for Kishimoto’s view of spring. The show was fresh and oh so spring, which leaves us counting down the days until the first bloom!
Erdem

Ultimate prettiness was the theme du jour at Erdem. The designer went all out feminine for spring with lace and watercolored pastels seen throughout the show. In person the clothes were stunning, and completely wearable which is exactly what every woman wants for spring!
- ALEXANDRA IANCOVICI

Alexandra is a London based Buyer/Consultant working with various luxury concept stores all over the world. She worked in the buying offices of Holt Renfrew Canada and Bergdorf Goodman early on in her career. Alexandra covers fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan, Paris and India.
