Kim Rowley: A Passion For Shoes
By Editor • Aug 18th, 2008 • Category: Fashion View
Kim Rowley (left), whose collection of shoes numbers around 300, knows her footwear in every form, shape, and fashion, from sandals to stilettos, boots to ballet flats, crocs to uggs, and wedges to pumps. And she graciously shares her knowledge with us at Shoeaholics Anonymous, her fine site, for those like her, who have a unquenchable desire for shoes, shoes, and more shoes.
Beyond footwear, Kim has been involved in Web affiliate marketing since 1998, and is the founder of Key Internet Marketing with its signature sites, Steal The Style.com, ShoppingBookmarks.com, and Shoeaholics Anonymous.
We thank Kim for taking time out from her busy schedule to participate in our interview.
Fashion Time: Kim, can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got started in fashion blogging?
Kim Rowley: I stumbled onto affiliate marketing back in 1998 when I started to make websites about my personal interests as a hobby and realized I could make money doing something I love!
Fashion Time: How did the genesis of Shoeaholics Anonymous come about?
Kim Rowley: My friends have always called me a “shoeaholic” and being “addicted to shoes”, so thus I decided to start blogging about all my shoes and shoe sales, etc.
Fashion Time: Your thoughts on crocs and uggs?
Kim Rowley:I think both are basking in the glory of their hype. Just bought my first pair of Crocs yesterday! Probably wouldn’t have invested in them, but they were a great buy. And I don’t own any Uggs either, just a few knock-off renditions.
Fashion Time: Your comments on gladiator fit flops:

Kim Rowley:Julianne Moore looks great for 47 - wish I looked that good now at age 35! But I wouldn’t be caught dead in those shoes. First off, I hate things between my toes, it’s just not right that there is more ankle coverage than actual foot coverage.
Fashion Time: And stilettos for babies?
Kim Rowley: I love ‘em! Since they are just for show and not actually made for walking, I would have so put my daughters into those as infants!
Fashion Time: The best place to shop for shoes, both online and off?
Kim Rowley: Online, Zappos. Offline, DSW.
Fashion Time: What are the hottest heels this season?
Kim Rowley: Architectural Wedges
Fashion Time: What are the five must have shoe styles, every woman should own?
Kim Rowley:Do I have to just pick five??? Ok. Ballet Flats, Black Boots, Casual Sandals, Dress Sandals, Athletic Shoes
Fashion Time: Tell us about the footwear trends for the Fall 2008 season?
Kim Rowley: I think since the architectural wedges are just coming out by the big designers, the knock-off designers should be cranking some out for autumn. Should be easier on the pocketbook, too!
Fashion Time: Women never like to divulge the true number, but approximately how many pairs of shoes do you own?
Kim Rowley: About 300 pairs. When I moved last year, I got rid of over 100 pairs.
Fashion Time: What were/are the worst pair of shoes you owned?
Kim Rowley: Probably my white moccasins - I’ll probably never wear them again, but I can’t seem to part with them!

Fashion Time: Are Shoes a fetish or a fashion?
Kim Rowley: A little from column A and a little from column B.
Fashion Time: The No. 1 celeb-trendsetter for shoes is?
Kim Rowley: I get the most requests to find Blake Lively’s (from Gossip Girls) shoes.
Fashion Time: Wedges for men: Are they a do or a don’t?
Kim Rowley: Definitely don’t.

Fashion Time: What are the basic tips for buying shoes?
Kim Rowley: If the shoe fits, buy it!
Fashion Time: What is your attitude to celebs who are launching their own footwear lines?
Kim Rowley: Considering most celebrities don’t actually design the shoes themselves, I think they do it for publicity (ie monetary reasons).
Fashion Time: Manolo, Louboutin or Jimmy Choo?
Kim Rowley: Jimmy Choo.
Fashion Time: What shoes would you die for: Heels or flats?
Kim Rowley: Heels.
Fashion Time: What ONE pair of shoes from your wardrobe would you take from your house or apartment, if a fire happened?
Kim Rowley: My favorite style/color of shoes are brown mules, and my Aerosoles are my favorites of the few dozen I own.
Fashion Time: Are vegan shoes really fashionable?
Kim Rowley: I haven’t seen any Vegan shoes that are glitzy glamourous yet, but I don’t think that’s the point of them; they are more to make a statement about animal rights.
Fashion Time: If the opportunity came along, what celeb’s shoe collection would you steal and why?
Kim Rowley: Blake Lively’s so I could be the envy of the Gossip Girls wannabes.
Fashion Time: Biggest fashion faux pas?
Kim Rowley: Wearing black socks with white shoes. Do.Not.Do.It.
