The Feminization of Men’s Fashion: Freaky or Fabulous?

14 July 2008 4 Comments

The Girl Meets Boy trend is fun. We women like to wear menswear-inspired pieces like suits and vests. Your look acquires an androgynous and edginess, which is so cool and refreshing. But, is it as fun, when men steal their styling muses from the women’s wardrobe, gallivanting about in silk and tulle blouses, corsets or skirts?

When we saw this new Marc by Marc Jacobs ad (below), we thought it was just strongly ironic.  But then, the Men’s fashion shows in Paris and Milan began featuring dark-rimmed male models with pale makeup, walking in glittering gold jeans and lace shorts, head-to-toe in electric pink with  strings of pearls and wedges.

So, tell us — by clicking on the link to the poll below — is the Boy Meets Girl trend really fun and fabulous, or just freaky-deaky?

I love it that color and excietment are finally coming to men’s fashion. Why should the girls have all the fun. The Salvator Farragamo suits are fabulous and I love the Alexander McQueen designs they are hot.

I personally think it is a good thing that men explore a more feminine way of expression. Women have already had their equal rights moment in my country, it is about time that men had theirs. Why must anybody be a slave to ideas of masculinity that were set into place by those long gone and disconnected from the needs of modern humanity. Gone are the days when we hunted and were hunted by animals. Long gone are the days when 90% of men died of violent causes (just after the fall of the roman empire). Even “traditional” ideals if manhood seem silly when we look at what what has been expected of a man over the many ages of human existence. Most of my guy friends push buttons on computer keyboards for a living. There was a time when that sort of things was considered woman’s work. I have other guy friend that still consider it so.
