Dahlia and Sarah: Chic Intuition’s Fashionable Duo
By Editor • Jul 31st, 2008 • Category: Fashion View
Their stylish savoir faire is everywhere. That would be Chic Intuition’s Dahlia and Sarah, the dynamic duo that possesses an entertaining mixture of je ne sais quoi and snarky happiness, which makes fashion reading fun, for one and all.
Untragically hip, Dahlia and Sarah will be the flag bearers, when the Trendinistas of the world unite and take over. In the meantime, pull up a chair, visit Chic Intuition, and immerse yourself in the new fashion blogging revolution, as their many readers have.
We thank Dahlia and Sarah for taking time off from their busy schedules to participate in our interview.
Fashion Time: You are two Chic fashionistas dishing. How did you meet?
DAHLIA says:
Well Sarah is my sister’s best friend.. sorry we didn’t have a more “fashionable” remark..like meeting backstage at some show
SARAH says:
Ya but we also became really close through our common love of internet
shopping. We began chatting online, comparing sites we loved, pieces we
wanted to buy, until one day our daily routine transformed into a blog!
Fashion Time: You mention at Chic Intuition, that you are of Arabesque backgrounds. In your opinions, what is the most stylish city in the Middle East and why?
DAHLIA says:
Hmm that’s a toughie! First of all, on behalf of all Arabs I would like to
rid you of the stereotype that our idea of fashion is covering up from head
to toe (although we’ve nailed the Abaya chic look pretty well).
SARAH says:
Exactly it’s more about dressing conservatively but incorporating the
latest trends as well.
DAHLIA says:
So not to be biased or anything, but personally I think Kuwait is the most
stylish of the bunch. What do you think Sarah?
SARAH says:
Hmmm… to be honest I would say Lebanon has the cutting edge in designers, etc (the home of Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad) so I would assume that would make it the most stylish.
Fashion Time: Your images at Chic Intuition are very entertaining. Do either of you have a background in design?
DAHLIA says:
Yes, I do. I’m an architect so design is in my blood. After a while Sarah
wanted to pitch in with the graphics, so I taught her the basics and she
basically flew with it…
SARAH says:
I think Dahlia was surprised how quickly I picked it up! I’ve always been
very creative since I was a kid and computer savvy so that helped a lot! I
would love to maybe start my own jewelry line someday.
Fashion Time: What ONE item from your wardrobe would you take from your house or apartment, if a fire happened?
SARAH says:
Well I actually had to go through that experience a few months ago… We
had to evacuate our home due to the wildfires in Southern California and my
husband told me to pack. I think he was so surprised when all I packed was
my jewelry and important paperwork! He probably thought I would tear into
my closet stuffing every single piece into my bag instead. I guess I felt
that all that stuff was replaceable and that our health and well-being were more important!
DAHLIA says:
Thanks for the very politically correct response Sarah! Ok so now to the
more materialistic answer: I guess I’d grab my Rolex. I had a specific
(men’s) model in mind, and it took me ages to find it. So ya, I’d grab a
piece of metal instead of my “well-being”. Lol
SARAH says:
Well you didn’t let me add that luckily my house was fine… My wardrobe is
still A OK I’m proud to report.
Fashion Time: Your three favorite fashion sites on the Internet are?
SARAH says:
Well, chicintuition.com of course! But seriously, we tried to make our
website the kind of site that we’d like to read ourselves and that’s why we
would choose it as a favourite. Other than that, I would say style.com and
the sartorialist.
Fashion Time: Trendiest designer at the moment?
SARAH says:
Karta definitely… Their styles are so trendy, wearable, and cute! I
wouldn’t mind owning every single piece
I also love Jay Godfrey’s
dresses.
DAHLIA says:
Personally I’m in love with Stella McCartney’s latest collection, oh and
Jenny Kayne! Oh please don’t ask a fashion editor that question and
expect one response…
SARAH says:
I agree! I love them all! Why are you making me choose? Now I’ve hurt
Marc Jacobs’ feelings.
Fashion Time: What is your favorite decade of fashion?
SARAH says:
I love the sixties! Always have and always will. I was into flared jeans
waaaaaaaaay before they were IN! I also love tunic tops and kaftans and
flowy pieces…
DAHLIA says:
I think that fashion has a lot to do with the lifestyles of the people
embodying the trends, so I can’t really choose a decade I didn’t live in.
I’d have to say the 2000’s definitely since we’ve managed to prove that
mixing and matching trends from all over the years really can result in
high end style.
Fashion Time: What is tres uncool these days in the fashion world?
DAHLIA says:
Definitely anything knocked-off.
SARAH says:
Cheap looking clothing, shoes, and accessories. Don’t get me wrong, I love
a good bargain but just because it doesn’t cost much doesn’t mean it has to
LOOK it.
Fashion Time: If you were down to your last $10, what would you buy?
DAHLIA says:
I’d buy myself some concealer. Because if all I had left in my bank
account was $10, believe me I’d look like stress whacked me in the head.
SARAH says:
Lol! I probably wouldn’t shop if I only had $10! I’d save it for an
emergency.
Fashion Time: Should they test cosmetics on animals?
DAHLIA says:
If you consider humans animals, then yes!
SARAH says:
I would say no. Just because I once saw a documentary on it and was
completely appalled at seeing the cute rabbits with blush and eyeliner!
They shouldn’t have to suffer for our vanity! I actually envy them for not
having to live under that pressure! Lol!
Fashion Time: How does one become a trashy diva?
SARAH says:
Lucite heels! So trashy (ahem Linda and Brooke Hogan)! They should never
be worn outside of the house.
DAHLIA says:
When you can see their undergarments in any way, shape or form.
Fashion Time: Everyone has a secret, so tell us yours?
SARAH says:
I am absolutely addicted to reality shows and not the good kind! I’m
talking the really trashy ones on VH1…
DAHLIA says:
Oh my gosh me too!! And I’m a little obsessed with Scott Speedman. Like
wanna marry him obsessed.
SARAH says:
Ya like that will happen!
Fashion Time: Are fashion ads too provocative these days?
DAHLIA says:
Honestly sometimes I feel like they make some ads provocative (even if it
has nothing to do with the designer’s concept) just to get some attention.
I see it as selling out.
SARAH says:
Yes! I saw a Joe’s Jean’s billboard yesterday in LA that I was absolutely
shocked by… Why wear jeans if your entire torso is not covered?
Plumber’s crack is not chic!
Fashion Time: You’re hired as American President George Bush’s personal stylists. How do you attire him?
DAHLIA says:
Ok , I didn’t see that question coming…Sarah you go first.
SARAH says:
I would get him a T-Shirt that says College Edjukated. That would explain
a lot!
DAHLIA says:
Haha! No comment!
Fashion Time: We have hip-hip-Hippie Chick chic, bad girl chic, girly girl chic, urban chic… Is there a stylish trend you two prefer above all
others… and why?
DAHLIA says:
Easy, breezy, bohemian chic, because that’s my style.
SARAH says:
I would say I’m a mix of hip-hip-Hippie Chic and Urban Chic. Depends on my mood… I get into phases each season. Currently it’s silk tunics (I
bought like 10) and ANYTHING metallic! I also love embellished pieces.
Basically, things that look like some effort went into making them.
DAHLIA says:
Ditto
Fashion Time: Leather and fur: Which Celeb could pull off such a combo and inspire fear and loathing in the hearts of PETA people the world over?
DAHLIA says:
I think the Olsen twins have pretty much managed to pull that off!
SARAH says:
Nicole Ritchie for sure! I see her pulling it off quite well.
Fashion Time: This is the re-dawning of the Age of Aquarius… Hippie headbands, should they all be gathered up and tossed in the flaming pits of Hell, or are they a good fashion statement if worn correctly?
DAHLIA says:
Oh anything but! I think we should embrace the hippie trend, and take what
element works best on us. So basically, avoid pulling off a Mischa Barton
and you’ll be OK.
SARAH says:
I think headbands are a good fashion statement! We did a post on it.
Personally, I love the look. It gives someone instant style if worn
correctly.
